Summer Camp - Scouts

Summer Camp LogoSummer Camp is about having fun with friends (new and old), trying new things, taking new adventures and maybe even picking up a few merit badges along the way.  The Great Rivers Council summer camp program at Hohn Scout Reservation makes all that possible and more.  New merit badges are added to the mix each year.  In 2008 we will offer over 50 different merit badges and activities to choose from, so you can be sure to find something new to try.  Some of the new badges for 2008 include Metalwork (taught by the Blacksmiths Association of Missouri), Surveying, Pulp & Paper and Photography.  Besides all the merit badges we offer a great line-up of fun activities:

  • Sons of Daniel Boone members will have lots of fun (click here to go to the Sons of Daniel Boone page)
    • funCaving
    • Climbing
    • Tubing
    • Pontoon boats
    • Big Surf
    • Black Powder and Tomahawks
  • Outback Rangers participants will have true adventure, spending their week in primitive campsites in the back woods of camp and on overnight outposts. (click here to go to the Outback Ranger page)
  • The Order of the Arrow plays a big role in camp too, offering Brotherhood classes during block 3, call-out ceremonies during family-night on Thursday and ordeal completion on Fridays.
  • Fridays also bring special merit badge opportunities like Radio, Horsemanship and Crime Prevention, special activities like the Mile Swim, Geocaching, Silver Bullet and Golden Arrow competitions and Kayaking BSA and special guests like the model rocket club and the Radio Controlled plane club.
  • Evenings are packed with activities including campfires, troop climbs, sailing and canoeing out-and-abouts, our water carnival, Sons of Daniel Boone and Order of the Arrow ceremonies.
  • Free time can be filled at open swims, open boating, on the sand volleyball court, participating in the water-polo tournament or playing ultimate in the parade grounds with the staff.

SnakeWe also offer provisional camping opportunities for Scouts that want to go to camp a second time during the summer or are unable to go when their Troop is scheduled.
